Meet Dr. LaMar
Dr. LaMar Hasbrouck is a distinguished health leader and author committed to advancing population health and inspiring future generations of health professionals and STEM enthusiasts. His mission, “Inform and Inspire to Improve Human Health,” is profoundly shaped by his personal experiences growing up in a community facing significant health challenges. Since 2016, he has served as the Managing Director of DLM LLC, a boutique consulting firm dedicated to enhancing human health.
Dr. Hasbrouck’s remarkable career is highlighted by numerous accolades, including being named Illinois’ “Top Doc” during his tenure as the head of the state’s health department. He has held key leadership positions, including strategic consultant for the American Medical Association and Chief Operating Officer of the Cook County Department of Public Health, part of Cook County Health. Previously, he served as the Executive Director of the National Association of County and City Health Officials, representing the nation’s 3,000 local health departments, safeguarding the health of approximately 250 million Americans.
With over a decade of experience at the CDC as a “disease detective,” Dr. Hasbrouck played a crucial role in two of the largest global health initiatives: the World Health Organization’s polio eradication program and the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. He has successfully managed major outbreaks, including swine flu, monkeypox, and Ebola, establishing himself as a national authority during the COVID-19 pandemic, frequently sharing his insights with major media outlets like CNN and USA Today.
In addition to his leadership roles, Dr. Hasbrouck has taught at various schools of medicine and public health, earning accolades for his contributions to both governmental and non-governmental sectors. Notably, he received the prestigious 2023 Public Service Award from the UCLA Alumni Association.
Dr. Hasbrouck holds a BA and MPH from UC Berkeley, graduated as a Dean’s Scholar from UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine, and completed his internal medicine residency at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Cornell Medical Center. He also earned an MBA from the University of Saint Mary and a certificate in executive leadership from the Harvard Kennedy School. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the nation’s leading professional society for healthcare leaders. Additionally, he is the author of two books: G Street Lion: Stalking a Dream (2016) and COVID BYTES: Naked Musings of a Disease Detective (2022).
